JEL Classification

Add JEL classification codes to article submissions

What it does

JEL Classification adds a dedicated field for Journal of Economic Literature classification codes to the OJS submission form. Authors select codes from an autocomplete field, and the chosen classifications appear on the published article page.

How it works

After enabling the plugin, a new required JEL field appears in the submission wizard:

  1. Author starts typing a JEL code or description
  2. The autocomplete suggests matching codes from the full JEL hierarchy
  3. Author selects one or more codes
  4. Selected codes are saved with the submission and displayed on the published article

Key features

  • Required field — submissions can’t be completed without at least one JEL code
  • Smart autocomplete — search by code (e.g., “G21”) or description (e.g., “Banks”)
  • Full JEL hierarchy — complete classification tree built into the plugin
  • Configurable display — show leaf nodes only or include parent categories
  • Article page integration — JEL codes appear on the published article page

Features

  • Required JEL field in the submission form — articles can't be submitted without at least one code
  • Smart autocomplete with the full JEL classification hierarchy (codes and descriptions)
  • Multiple JEL codes per article
  • Option to show only leaf nodes or full hierarchy including parent categories
  • JEL codes displayed on published article pages
  • Localization: English, Polish

Requirements

  • • OJS 3.4+ or 3.5+
