Abstract Limit

Enforce minimum and maximum word counts for article abstracts

What it does

Abstract Limit lets journal editors enforce minimum and maximum word counts for article abstracts. Authors see a live word counter directly under the abstract editor, and submissions are blocked if the abstract doesn’t meet the configured limits.

How it works

After enabling the plugin, a journal manager sets the desired min and max word counts in the plugin settings. From that point:

  1. Authors see a word counter under the abstract field that updates in real time
  2. The counter turns red when the limit is exceeded
  3. Server-side validation blocks the submission if the abstract is too short or too long

Key features

  • Per-journal configuration — each journal on your OJS instance can set different limits
  • Real-time feedback — word counter under TinyMCE updates as the author types
  • Server-side enforcement — even if JavaScript is disabled, the submission won’t go through
  • QuickSubmit support — validation works with the QuickSubmit plugin too

Features

  • Configurable min/max word limits per journal
  • Real-time word counter under the TinyMCE editor — turns red when limit is exceeded
  • Server-side validation — submission is blocked if abstract is too short or too long
  • Optional submit button blocking when abstract doesn't meet the limit
  • QuickSubmit plugin compatibility
  • Localization: English, Polish

Requirements

  • • OJS 3.4+ or 3.5+
